Phillip Rhodes

He cannot be surpassed and with signature millinery trademarks noticeable by a keen eye, you can see that we are looking at a milliner that is so devoted yet meticulous that not a hair can be out of place when wearing any of his masterpieces.
Every now and then I see a Phillip Rhodes Hat pass by me and immediately I think of how much money I have in each account for a purchase.  Phillips hats are very reasonably prices in comparison to other millinery masters and have an edge of individuality and distinction.
I have recently just purchased one of these millinery marvels and I am so excited.
Whenever I receive a hat, I must admit I look over it like I have just purchased a new car, I look around it everywhere to see the work and how loved it is.
Not a stitch out of place.  This hat is so brilliantly made that it is flawless.  It is beautiful and masterfully handmade.  Yet this is work not of a hatmaker but that of a milliner, sitting and stitching for hours.
I can say that this hat is so appreciated and not just a hat. I have many sitting in my hat room well approx 400, but this is something really special and needs extra special love.  Thank you Mr Rhodes for creating something so beautiful in my eyes.  Your work is beyond brilliant and I cannot wait to see your Spring Carnival Collection.  Click Here to see more of the wonderful creations of Phillip Rhodes.

RIP Mr Frederick Fox

I only had the pleasure of being introduced to Mr Fox on a couple of occasions and was blessed to have exchanged our love of hats.  A gentleman and Master Milliner.
So many loved and admired him so much, I leave it to others who knew him better to leave some words.  Anna. x

Frederick Fox Master Milliner
How can I not mark the passing of the great milliner, Freddie Fox?
Australian born and trained, Mr Fox forged an impressive career in London and is famous for making hats for the Queen.
Whilst Australians celebrated the Bicentenary in early 1988, I was knocking sheepishly on the door of Freddie Fox's eagles nest of an atelier, high above London's Bond Street.
Armed with a letter of introduction from my previous boss, Mr Individual, I was shepherded into the plush showroom.
Elegantly silvery and dapper, Mr Fox flicked nonchalantly through my modest folio saying that he could pay me no more than 50 pounds per week and to ring back in exactly seven days to see whether a position was available.
I recall withdrawing from his presence taking cautiously tiny, backward steps.
One week later, as requested, I telephoned but to advise that I had accepted a position elsewhere.
'Oooooh!' groaned the cockney voice at the other end of the line, 'Mr Fox won't be pleased! He's expecting you to start this week!'
When Mr Fox and I were introduced 15 years later on the lawn at Flemington, that was the occasion of our first real meeting.

Phillip Rhodes

Ahh, there is something very humbling when making Easter Bonnet for my daughter and learning millinery so I can better understand and constructively talk about the subject, I am quickly humbled from my Easter Bonnet mayhem taking day to see the work of Phillip Rhodes.
Phillip Rodes hats are almost painstakingly perfect, in thinking, how long and tedious each stitch has been.  In fact one of the stand out hats in last years Melbourne Cup Millinery Award for 2012 was Phillip's of which I have just learnt.  It was beyond magnificent.
As I toy with felt and sewing like an infant, I am learning, but the word 'Milliner' should never be used loosely, there is something between a Master Hatmaker and a Hat Decorator.
Clearly Phillip Rhodes, you are simply a master of your craft.  A x
